Deep ruby. Medium nose. Ripe black fruits, blackberry and plum. Initially the flavour profile was dominated by red and black liquorice but that moved into a more supporting role with some decanting. Dry.
Medium acid. High alcohol. Full body. Long finish. Exceptional quality.
Read between the wines –
•The 2018 vintage has strong notes of mocha, and vanilla on the nose with a spicy sweet warmth (13.8%) Dark fruits of black cherry and cassis. Acid is high but not out of balance and will give longevity to the wine.
Tannins are dry and chalky on the front palate, alcohol is a little noticeable on the mid palate. Decant at least 2-2.5 hours before drinking. Will cellar for at least a other 10-15 years

Really really lovely complex wine. So smooth. Notes of plum, black currant, oak, leather. Could have laid done for longer but overall a lovely big red. Enjoyed at a dinner party with pot roast.

We visited Rockford in 2018 and were delighted by this gem of a winery. But the Basket Press convinced us much earlier. Masterfully made, powerful, acidic, with character and grandeur. It is incredibly slim, with plenty of backbone and perfectly ripe tannins. Now in its prime. Black cherry, plum extract, pipe tobacco and licorice. Great!
