Bodegas Alion, owned by the legendary Vega Sicilia estate, was founded in 1986. The first vintage to be commercialized was 1991. The wine made here is a more Bordeaux-styled, “modern” wine than the Unico or Valbuena. Pablo Alvarez, managing director of Vega Sicilia, calls Alion “a wine somewhere between a Ribera del Duero and a Medoc in style”. The winery is located just down the road from Vega Sicilia and the wine is made from 100% tempranillo from 85 hectares that were planted in 1986 in addition to younger vines planted at Vega Sicilia. With its prime location and dedication to quality, Bodegas Alion has quickly gained recognition as one of the top wineries in Ribera del Duero. The combination of old and young vines allows the winery to produce complex and balanced wines with layers of flavors. The tempranillo grapes are carefully handpicked and undergo a meticulous fermentation process to ensure optimal extraction of flavors and aromas. The resulting wines showcase the unique terroir of the region, with a perfect balance of fruit, acidity, and tannins.
