We are proud to present one of Italy’s treasures: Capannelle

Back in 1974, Italy’s best kept winery secret, Capannelle, has been quietly producing its wines’ behind the closed doors of a old XVI century farmhouse in Gaiole, Chianti.

Current owner, James B. Sherwood, is the founder and shareholder of the Orient – Express Hotels LTD., which owns some of the world’s most beautiful hotels: Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Hotel Spendido in Portofino, Villa San Michele in Florence, Hotel Caruso in Ravello and many others.

The productions of Capannelle wines takes place over 21 hectares. 16 of them are vineyard, 3 are taken up by forest, and 2 are cultivated as an olive grove. In the 16 hectare vineyard, 3 hectares are set aside for Chardonnay and the remaining are separated between Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Malvasia Nera.

Besides producing 80,000 bottles per year, 800 Litres of extra-virgin olive oil are produced each year resulting in a variety selection such as Leccino and Moraiolo.
