Bass Philip is located in the South Gippsland region that is renowned for its regular rainfall pattern. The vineyards are located on a north-easterly aspect and planted on deep silky loams with high iron content giving great colour to the fruits.
Philip Jones is a perfectionist and crops at low level to ensure great flavours. His ultimate objective is to produce a wine that is completely natural and expresses the vineyard site. Racking is kept to a minimum and no pumps are used in the winery which just further shows his principle.
In the Wine Advocate 2001, it was commented that Pinot Noirs from Bass Philip are brilliant and undoubtedly the finest Pinot Noir from Australia.
